ATM Upgrade in Okinawa

Bank of Ryukyus offers access to overseas cardholders

Visitors to Okinawa can now withdraw cash in Japanese yen from a limited number of ATMs at the Bank of the Ryukyus. Overseas cardholders with a Visa, Mastercard and China UnionPay credit cards as well as cash cards and debit cards can use this service.

Access is only available at 19 ATMs, such as those at Naha Airport and some department stores. By the end of 2016, the bank has plans to install another ten ATMs that are compatible for overseas cardholders at major sightseeing spots. These Japan ATMs are open from 07:00 to 02:00 on weekdays and 08:00 to 21:00 on weekends, and have will have Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean language functions. This is a good alternative if you can't find a Japan Post, 7-Eleven or Citibank ATM.

If you are visiting some of the outlying islands, such as the Keramas, you should take enough cash to prior to your visit.
