A Noh performance by Tatsushige Udaka

Established in the 14th century, Noh theatre is one of the oldest theatrical arts in the world today. A rarefied collaboration of music, dance, acting, costume and chant, Noh theatre exemplifies Japan's highest artistic sensibilities.

In mid-July, the Kongo school of Noh, one of the five schools of Noh still performing today, will be staging a performance of the famous play Dojoji - one of the most dramatic and challenging plays - by, and in honour of, the actor Tatsushige Udaka.

A performance at the Kongo Noh Theatre in Kyoto, Dojoji is open to the public and represents the perfect opportunity to experience one of the world's premier artistic expressions by one of its most highly respected performers.

This Tatsushige Udaka. This information is not right. The Tatsushige no Kai “Dojoji” was opened in 2019.

In this year we have two performances. One is on 17th March, and the other one is 1st September. There is the link of information about first performance.

Michishige Udaka is the only Noh mask maker who also performs on stage, giving him a unique insight into the intersection of these two art forms. It will be a great event!
