Rub A Dub Reggae Bar

Kyoto's oldest, since 1986

Kyoto: the city that hundreds of tourists visit every year. Rich in culture and history, people from all over the world visit Kyoto to admire its beauty. If you spend some time here, you’ll soon realize that apart from the tourist attractions the city has so much more to offer! There’s music literally in every corner. Iin every shop, even down by the Kamo river, you’ll find street musicians playing melodic tunes. If you like reggae music, there’s a place for you in Kyoto. I would recommend a visit to Rub A Dub.

At the northern end of Kiyamachi-dōri, there’s a tiny basement bar that is worth paying a visit. The spot’s funky, colorful and tropical look makes it definitely stand out from other similar bars. As a regular, allow me to say that Rub A Sub is perfect for all kind of occasions! It’s a nice place for a quiet drink on weekdays, but on Friday and Saturday nights you’ll have no choice but to dance to the rhythm of reggae music along with the rest of the crowd as it will probably be full.

Choose from a great variety of alcoholic beverages such as beer, rum, tequila, vodka, gin and whisky or ask the staff to prepare you unique cocktails with a taste of Jamaica. If you’re hungry, there’s a menu with simple but tasty dishes to choose from. With an average price of 600-700 yen, you can enjoy freshly made curry dishes, soups, salads, and starters.

Last but not least, the main reason why you will want to go back to Rub A Dub is the staff. Energetic, polite, with a smile on their face and always ready to offer you the quickest and best service, the guys behind the bar will make your day. Oh, and if you see them singing and dancing to Bob Marley’s greatest hits, you should totally join them!

Rub A Dub opens daily from 7pm until 2 am. It’s just a few minutes away from Keihan Sanjo. Once you get off the station, cross the Sanjo bridge and continue straight on Sanjo-dōri. Turn left on Kiyamachi-dōri and go down the stairs you’ll see right next to the outdoor ramen shop.
